Bill and Wini Babione
Bill and Wini work with Campus Crusade for Christ in the country of Albania. Both of them have served with Campus Crusade for 14 years. Bill served two years at Ohio State University before moving to Albania in 1993. Wini served three years in Africa (Kenya and Zambia) in a Campus Crusade community health evangelism ministry before marrying Bill. They met each other in Africa while Bill was on a short-term project. They were married in 1995. After getting married they spent two years in seminary at the International School of Theology in San Bernardino, California, where Bill earned a Masters in Theology. After graduation they were invited to return to Albania, where Bill has been serving as the National Director for Campus Ministry since 1998.
Bill and Wini’s vision has been to see the gospel taken to places where people have yet to hear it. God has refined their vision over time, in order to understand the uniqueness and privilege of working in Albania. Albania introduced the world’s first formally atheistic state and was, for over 40 years, one of the most difficult countries in the world to reach for the gospel. Since the revolution in 1991 however, Albanians have been very open to the gospel and the church has grown quickly. Now, amazingly, the Albanian church is growing in commitment to reaching their own nationals as well as others.
The ministry among university students has seen much fruit. There are now nearly 80 Albanians serving on the full-time staff of Campus Crusade and hundreds of graduates following and serving Christ across Albania. There are currently ministries on five separate Albanian campuses, including Prishtina, Kosovo, where ministry began at the end of the war in 1999. In addition, a team of Albanians has recently been sent to Ankara, Turkey.
Bill and Wini continue in their vision to raise up young Albanian men and women who will serve Christ in Albania and beyond.
Bill and Wini have two children. Their daughter, Susanna, is in the first grade, and their son, Ben, is in kindergarten. Both of the children attend Gjerasim Qiriazi School, which is an English-speaking school for missionary kids in Tirana, Albania.
