Paul and Mary Nuth
Paul and his wife Nary were born and raised in Cambodian homes where Buddha was worshipped. Today, 95% of Cambodians still claim Buddha as their god. In 1973 Paul, as a young teenager, was brought to Christ. He then was living in the dark period of Cambodia's history when some 2 million Cambodians were massacred, 30% of the population. He escaped across the killing fields, reached a transit camp at the border, and was able to travel on to the United States. Nary joined him there and in 1981 they were married. They now have two children, Nicolas 17 and Pauline 14. Paul attended Bible school and was encouraged and helped in the early years of his ministry of planting Cambodian churches in California, by CPC and City Team Ministries.
Paul co-founded Cambodian Ministries for Christ (CMC) and soon started to make trips back to his own country. He organized and led pastors' seminars, and ministered in the newly founded churches in Cambodia. He became increasingly aware of the need for more than occasional seminars. God provided by bringing together CMC and the Biblical Institute for Leadership Development (BILD). "The purposes of the CMC/BILD partnership is to provide a non-formal, church based educational training process to equip all of God's people for local church ministry in the context of a local church." Paul is working through a core group of 53 men, who use BILD training courses, translated into Cambodian by Paul and his team.
Paul continues to travel in Cambodia several times a year overseeing the entire program, preparing leaders for the approximately 1300 new churches in his country. He sees this as the biblical pattern of preparing leaders. Christ taught his disciples. Paul had his Timothys. This is a church-based training of leaders who become pastors, elders, and provides the dynamic structure for the growth and witness of a biblically structured church.
Paul is now part of an international mission called "Mission to the Americas". It has a strong commitment to Cambodia. CPC is developing links with this international agency and are delighted to have a partnership in what is undoubtedly a strategic ministry for a country that is still getting on its feet and a church that is being rebuilt after the destruction of what has been documented as the black chapter in Cambodia's history.
